Pauletta Hansel is a poet, memoirist, and teacher whose tenth poetry collection is Will There Also Be Singing? (Shadelandhouse Modern Press), poems of witness and protest. These poems are from her manuscript, Understory: A Women’s History of Appalachia, a hybrid of history, genealogy, memoir, and poetry which fourteen generations of her foremothers, from a Jamestown Bride, on through the women pioneers of Appalachia, and finally into the lives of her own generation. That book is forthcoming fall 2026 from University Press of Kentucky.
